UNEA-6 registered the highest participants from the major groups so far. With over 500 participations in the Global youth Assembly and similar number participation the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum.
The Green Room at UNEA-6 which served as an exclusive Major Groups and Stakeholders hub for facilitating side events, bilateral meetings, and daily briefings, fostering invaluable exchanges and informal dialogues among Major Groups and Stakeholders throughout the UNEA-6 period saw a record 35 side events spanning the OECPR and UNEA week organized in the Green Room.
Global Youth Environment Assembly
The Global Youth Environment Assembly 2024 was hosted at the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) from 17 to 18 February 2024.
The meeting registered over 500 participants with 450 participants collecting their badges.
2024 Global YEA served as a platform for young leaders from around the world to come together and address pressing environmental challenges. Our assembly empowered youth voices, fostered collaboration, and inspired action towards a sustainable future. Through engaging workshops, interactive discussions, and impactful initiatives, participants explored key themes such as climate protection, ocean governance, plastic pollution, chemicals and waste, finance, human rights, energy efficiency and others. Young people united to amplify youth perspectives and drive positive change for the planet.
Multi Stakeholder Forum
In accordance with the established practice of previous United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) sessions, a multistakeholder dialogue was held as part of the high-level segment of UNEA-6. The multi-stakeholder dialogue under the sub-theme “Partnering for the Environment: Inclusive Multilateralism Fit for Purpose”, brought together representatives from Major Groups and Stakeholders, Member States, the United Nations system and international organizations to explore concrete solutions for inspiring transformative action to achieve effective, inclusive, and sustainable multilateral actions.
The event provided an opportunity for an interactive high-level dialogue on how the multilateral system can help ensure a more inclusive approach for decision-making at all levels. It also included an analysis by the representatives of major groups, member states and other stakeholders on challenges and opportunities, and how innovative partnerships and collaboration can contribute to actionable strategies to address the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The multi-stakeholder dialogue was moderated by Mr. Ayman Cherkaoui (regional co-facilitator of the Africa region) and Ms. Andrea Nakova (Women’s Major Group).
