The United Nations Environment Programme’s New York Office coordinates UNEP's engagement with UN interagency mechanisms in New York, ensuring that environmental concerns are addressed in system-wide policies, programs and operations of the UN System. The office coordinates UNEP’s presence in the High-Level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), and additionally supports the coordination of the UN Secretary-General's initiative on Harnessing Critical Energy Transition Minerals for Sustainable Development. The office also supports the work of two UNEP-led interagency initiatives: the UN Environment Management Group (EMG), of which the Head of the New York Office serves as Secretary, and the Sustainable UN (SUN) Facility.
The office additionally engages with thematic UN networks such as the Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality, the Inter-Agency Support Group for Indigenous Peoples and the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development, bringing discussions in New York to our technical focal points in Nairobi.
The office also acts as a bridge between New York-based UN entities, UNEP headquarters in Nairobi and regional and specialized offices around the world.
