UNEP and partners seek to create dynamic environmental information tools to empower MEA Focal Points, experts, organizations, and other key stakeholders in fostering a healthier planet.
Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and intergovernmental negotiations are often complex and fragmented. For this reason, UNEP seeks to create dynamic information management tools to make legal data available to MEA Focal Points, Experts, Organizations, and other key stakeholders in an intelligent and accessible way. These tools serve as resources to build capacity and facilitate a deeper understanding of environmental legal frameworks.
In light of the complexity and broad range of environmental legal data available, we seek to reduce the time and effort needed to obtain dispersed information. It does so building on a long-term project of data exchange initiated among MEA Secretariats and UNEP, which led to the development of InforMEA, DaRT, LEAP, Judicial Portal, ECOLEX,
UNEP is working across the UN system with the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) and the multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), in collaboration with the private sector and civil society organizations among other stakeholders, to meet international and national environmental commitments for sustainable development.
